I'm Greg Kaighin, and I teach online piano lessons, available between 9am and 4:45pm, Monday to Friday. That makes it easy to fit lessons around a flexible working day, a home-education timetable, or a student's free periods between classes — with no commute either side of your lesson.
Meet the Teacher
Music has been a lifelong passion. I've been a piano teacher and musician for over 25 years, and I'm happy to teach people of all ages and abilities.
I studied at Leeds College of Music, where I gained a BA (Hons) in Jazz Studies. Alongside teaching I've also worked as a performer — leading my own band and accompanying well-known acts in shows around the UK. That background still shapes how I teach, particularly when it comes to playing by ear, improvising and understanding how music actually works.
My goal is to give students the skills, knowledge and mindset to become independent musicians with a lasting interest in playing. We'll work on performance, sight-reading, aural awareness, composition and improvisation, and every student follows their own learning plan rather than a fixed syllabus. I teach classical, popular and jazz piano, using modern teaching books alongside my own materials.
Over the past few years I have entered my pupils into well over 100 graded exams. The pass rate is over 99%, and the average result is a pass with merit.
I'm DBS-checked, and my certificate is available on request.
Who I Teach
Adult Learners
Starting from scratch, or coming back to it decades later. Daytime lessons, convenient for anyone with free time during the day.
Home-Educated Children
Music inside the school day, and graded exams if you want them — Grades 6 to 8 carry UCAS points, which count towards UK university applications.
Students
Sixth form or university. Free periods and gaps between lectures, and performance preparation from GCSE and A-level up to undergraduate degrees.
